Let me start by saying that the debate about strength training vs bodybuilding is one that is totally based upon your own views.
I visit a lot of websites and forums. It’s part of my job to keep you up-to-date on all things strength training. But a funny thing happens when I head into forums and other sites… a question keeps recurring and keeps causing hot debates.
That question focuses on the topic for this page: strength training vs bodybuilding.
People typically decide that they are either on the right side of the issue or on the left. I have not seen too much room for anything down the middle. Strength training vs bodybuilding is definitely a splitting factor amongst people.
But I am different. This site is all about strength training so I owe it to you to explore the realm of strength training vs bodybuilding. What is it? Which one are you? Which one do you want to become?

Now before I go any further, I am making generalizations and assumptions. Yes, there are people who are bodybuilders and powerlifters, but they may not look like the above pictures. Yes, there are strength training women who look more like bodybuilders. But for the sake of this page these pictures are accurate.
So now that you have a visual of these terms, let’s go a bit deeper into strength training vs bodybuilding.
Let’s start with bodybuilding. Bodybuilding is a sport that focuses on muscle development for show. It focuses on reducing body fat as low as possible and creating good strong muscles. The primary focus is to look a certain way for competition.
Powerlifting is a bit different. It is also a sport. However the goal here is to increase strength. Pure power, baby! These guys and girls do not care what their bodies look like so long as they can lift an incredible amount of weight. Look at the difference in the physiques.
Strength training as it is used in this site is focused on general health and fitness. That’s why I included a picture of Anne. She is in all of the exercise pics as well.
Anne embodies what a strength training woman is. She is friendly, in shape, and striving to be her best at life.
Most likely if you are on this site… you are like Anne. You do not want to become a bodybuilder. You do not want to become a powerlifter. You want to become a strength training woman.
Allow me to simplify the strength training vs bodybuilding debate. Strength training is a means to increase health and fitness levels. A side benefit of that is fat loss and optimum health. A major benefit to becoming a strength training woman is a stellar body. Is that what you’re looking for?
Bodybuilding is a way of eating and training so that you look your absolute most “cut” for competition. It is a way of life for most participants.
The strength training vs bodybuilding debate is a waste of time. Focus on you and your goals. Do you want to get stronger? Do you want that chiseled look? Do you want to lift the most amount of weight possible?
Find who you are and what you want. Then skip the strength training vs bodybuilding crap and start moving. Your best bet is to use one of the resources I recommend.
